Naturopathic Medicine

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Understanding that disease affects the whole person, naturopathic medicine blends science with natural and alternative treatments to prevent illness, treat its underlying cause, and promote health and healing.

What Can It Do for You?

Naturopathic medicine can treat any health concern. Some patients arrive with symptoms they haven’t been able to address elsewhere. Others come to us seeking an alternative treatment to a diagnosed illness, or a new approach to improve overall health.

What Do Naturopathic Doctors Do?

Naturopathic doctors support your body’s natural healing ability using an integrated approach to prevention, disease diagnosis and treatment of physical, mental and emotional conditions. Our doctors will help you to understand the factors that affect your health, while addressing any specific concerns using natural therapies such as botanical medicine, acupuncture and other forms of traditional Chinese medicine, clinical nutrition and supplementation, homeopathic medicine, physical medicine and lifestyle counselling.

How It Works

With the help of a detailed intake form and extended first appointment, our naturopathic doctors will gather a comprehensive health history from you. To ensure a complete diagnosis, a physical exam using standard diagnostic instruments and laboratory testing may also be needed. We then prepare an individualized treatment plan including ongoing support and regular follow-up visits.

Recognized Experts

Naturopathic medicine is regulated in B.C. and naturopathic doctors are recognized as primary health care providers. As with medical doctors, students must complete three years of pre-med studies, and four years of post-graduate work at an accredited college of naturopathic medicine. Before practicing as a naturopathic doctor in B.C., they must successfully complete a rigorous series of standardized examinations.
