Active Release Techniques (ART)

What is ART?

sidebar_hafizi3Active Release Techniques or ART is a state-of-the-art system developed to treat soft-tissue injuries and problems, such as damage to muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. A movement-based massage therapy, ART has been proven effective in quickly and permanently resolving uncomfortable conditions related to overused muscles.

Dr. Hafizi has had great success in treating numerous soft-tissue injuries, using ART to safely restore motion without pain.

Understanding Muscle Damage

When muscles are overused, they can pull or tear, or be damaged by lack of oxygen, resulting in tough, dense scar tissue forming. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. The result? Reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped, you may also feel tingling, numbness or weakness.

What Happens During Treatment?

Far from a cookie-cutter approach, ART is tailored to each patient. An ART session combines examination with treatment. The exam involves a hands-on evaluation of the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. The abnormal tissues found are then treated by applying precisely directed tension, while the patient is directed to move the affected body part in specific ways. As the scar tissue is broken up during treatment, ART can result in improved movement in a very short amount of time.
